Some people say that it is impossible to help all the people in the world, so governments should only focus on the people in their own country. I do not completely agree with this opinion, because I think a government should help both its own people and people in other countries.
It is true that a government has a duty to its own citizens first. The people pay taxes, and they expect the government to use this money to improve their life, for example by building hospitals, schools and roads. A country also has many of its own problems, such as poverty and unemployment, and if the government ignores these problems, its own people will suffer. So I understand why some people think the government should focus on its own country.
However, I do not agree that we should ignore other countries completely. We all live on the same planet, and many problems, like diseases, climate change and wars, do not stop at the border. If rich countries help poor countries, the whole world becomes safer and more stable. Also, helping people in need is simply the right thing to do from a moral point of view. A country that helps others also gains more respect and friendship around the world.
In my opinion, a government should take care of its own people first, but it should also give some help to other countries when it can. In conclusion, I disagree that governments should focus only on their own country, because international cooperation is good for everybody in the long run.
