Many people travel abroad for university education. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

许多人出国接受大学教育。其优点是否大于缺点?

Band 6 model answer

Nowadays, many young people choose to travel to another country to study at university. Some people think this has more advantages, while others see some disadvantages. In my opinion, the advantages of studying abroad are bigger than the disadvantages.

There are several benefits of studying in a foreign country. Firstly, students can go to famous universities that maybe do not exist in their own country, so they receive a high quality education. Secondly, living in another country helps students to learn a new language and to understand a different culture, and this makes them more open-minded and independent. In addition, a degree from a foreign university can help them to find a good job in the future, because many employers respect this kind of experience. Students who live alone abroad also often become more confident and mature.

Of course, there are also some disadvantages. Studying abroad is very expensive, because students must pay for the tuition, the flights and the accommodation. Many students also feel homesick and lonely because their family and friends are far away. Sometimes it is also difficult to study in a foreign language at the beginning, and not every student can adapt easily to a new culture and a new education system.

However, I believe that these disadvantages are not bigger than the advantages. The problems like homesickness usually become better after some time, and the benefits of a good education and new experiences stay for the whole life. In conclusion, although studying abroad has some difficulties, I think the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages.
