Many companies now allow their staff to work from home instead of coming to the office every day. Some people think this is better for both the workers and the companies, while others think it is bad for productivity and teamwork. In this essay I will discuss both opinions and give my own view.
Firstly, there are clear advantages for the workers and also the bosses. A worker who stay at home does not waste hours in the traffic every morning, so he can start the work with more energy and in a better mood. Also, the company can hire people from different cities or even other countries, because the location is not so important anymore. Many employees say that they actually finish more tasks when they are at home, because a big office is sometimes noisy and full of interruptions.
However, other people believe that working from home reduce the productivity. When there is no manager near them, some workers become lazy and they do the job very slowly. Teamwork is also a problem, because it is not easy to discuss a big project only by video call, and small misunderstandings can happen. New staff especially need to sit together with experienced colleagues so they can learn the job faster.
In my opinion, working from home can be very useful if the company organise it in a good way. Managers should give clear goals and have regular online meetings to keep the whole team together. In conclusion, remote work has both benefits and difficulties, but with good management it is a positive change for modern companies.
