Artificial intelligence is now used in many industries, and people are not sure how it will change the job market. Some people think AI will create more jobs than it removes, while others are afraid it will cause a big unemployment. In this essay I will look at both opinions and give my view.
On one side, supporters of AI say that this technology open new opportunities. For example, companies now need workers who can build, train and repair the AI systems, and these are jobs that did not exist before. AI can also make some businesses grow faster, and when a business grows, it usually hire more people in other departments like sales or design. In addition, machines can take the dangerous or boring tasks, so humans can do work that is more creative and safe.
On the other side, many workers are scared to lose their jobs. In factories and call centres, machines can already do the work of many people, and the company can save money by using them. If this happen in many industries at the same time, a lot of people will be unemployed, especially those with only basic skills. It is not easy for an older worker to learn a completely new job in a short time.
In my opinion, AI will remove some jobs and create others, so the total effect depends on the preparation. Governments should offer free training programmes so people can move to the new jobs. In conclusion, AI is a big challenge, but if the society get ready, it does not have to cause mass unemployment.
