Band 6 model answer

It is true that many young people finish school with a negative feeling about learning. This is a sad situation, because education should be enjoyable and useful. In this essay I will explain why this happens and suggest what can be done to encourage a more positive attitude.

There are several reasons for this problem. Firstly, many schools focus too much on exams. Students only study to pass the test and to get good marks, so they do not enjoy the real learning, and they feel a lot of pressure. Secondly, some lessons are boring, because the teacher only talks and the students just listen and copy. When the subject is not connected to real life, young people do not see why it is important. In addition, if a student always gets bad marks, he loses his confidence and starts to hate the school.

However, there are ways to solve this problem. Teachers should make their lessons more interesting and interactive, for example by using games, projects and discussions. Schools should also connect the subjects to real life, so students understand how the knowledge is useful for their future. Furthermore, teachers and parents should encourage students and celebrate their progress, not only their marks. A student who receives regular praise will usually feel much more motivated to study.

In conclusion, young people often develop a negative attitude to learning because of exam pressure, boring lessons and a loss of confidence. However, with more interesting teaching, real-life connections and more encouragement, schools can help students to enjoy learning again and keep a positive attitude.
