Band 6 model answer

When young people go to university, they must choose which subject to study. Some people think that students should choose subjects that are useful for the job market, while others believe that students should study what they enjoy. In this essay I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

On one hand, there are good reasons to choose a useful subject. The main reason is that after university, students need to find a job to earn money and live independently. If they study a subject with many job opportunities, like engineering, medicine or computer science, it is easier for them to get a good career. Also, some subjects are more useful for the development of the country, because the society needs doctors, engineers and IT workers.

On the other hand, some people think students should study what they love. When a person studies a subject that he really enjoys, he is more motivated, works harder and usually gets better results. It is also very sad to spend years studying something boring only for money. In addition, when people do a job that they love, they are happier in their life. A happy and motivated worker is usually also better for the company and for the whole society.

In my opinion, the best choice is a balance between the two. Students should think about the job market, but they should also choose a subject that interests them, because both money and happiness are important. In conclusion, it is good to consider useful subjects, but students should not completely ignore their own passion and talent.
