Because of the internet, some people think that public libraries are no longer necessary, while others believe that they are still very important. In this essay I will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On one hand, it is true that the internet has changed the way we find information. Today, people can read books, news and articles online, and they can search for any information in a few seconds on their phone or computer. Because of this, some people think that we do not need libraries anymore, and that the buildings and the money can be used for other things.
On the other hand, many people believe that libraries are still important. Firstly, not everyone has a computer or the internet at home, especially poor people and old people, so the library gives them free access to books and technology. Secondly, a library is not only a place for books; it is also a quiet place where students can study, and where people can join classes, meet others and borrow many resources for free. In addition, some people prefer to read a real paper book instead of a screen. Reading a paper book is also better for the eyes and helps many people to concentrate more.
In my opinion, although the internet is very useful, public libraries are still necessary. They help people who do not have internet at home, and they are an important place for education and community. In conclusion, I believe that libraries and the internet can exist together, and libraries should continue to serve the society.
