In many countries, it is common for children to do some kind of paid work, such as delivering newspapers or helping in a family shop. Some people think this is a positive thing, while others believe it is wrong. In this essay I will discuss both opinions and give my view.
On one hand, there are some benefits when children do paid work. Firstly, they can learn important skills like responsibility, time management and how to work with other people. These skills are very useful for their future job. Secondly, when children earn a little money, they understand the value of money and they learn not to waste it. Some children also feel proud and more independent because they do not have to ask their parents for everything.
On the other hand, other people think that paid work is bad for children. The most important problem is that work can take time away from school and study, so the children get tired and their marks become lower. In some poor countries, children are forced to do hard and dangerous jobs, which is very bad for their health and their childhood. Children should have time to play and to rest, not only to work.
In my opinion, light and safe work can be positive for children if it does not affect their education and health. However, hard or dangerous work must never be allowed. In conclusion, paid work has advantages and disadvantages for children, and the most important thing is to protect their studies and their wellbeing.
