Band 6 model answer

Some people believe that creative artists, such as writers, painters and musicians, should always be free to express their own ideas in their work. I mostly agree with this opinion, but I think there should be some limits in special cases.

There are strong reasons to give artists freedom. Firstly, art is a way to show new ideas and different opinions, and this makes the society more open and interesting. If artists are not free, they cannot be creative, and culture will become boring and always the same. Secondly, freedom of expression is a basic human right, and artists should be able to talk about important topics like politics, religion and social problems, even if some people do not like it. Many great works of art in history criticised the government or the society, and they helped to bring positive changes.

However, I think there must be a few limits. For example, art should not encourage violence, hatred or racism against a group of people. It also should not be very harmful for children. In these situations, some control is necessary to protect the society. For example, a song or a film that teaches children to hurt other people is dangerous, so the government can put some rules on this kind of content.

In my opinion, artists should have a lot of freedom to express their ideas, because this freedom is very important for culture and for society. In conclusion, I agree that creative artists should be free, but this freedom should not be used to hurt or to endanger other people.
