Band 6 model answer

In every family, there is a question about how much children should listen to their parents. Some people believe that children should always follow their parents' advice, while others think that children should make their own decisions. In this essay I will discuss both opinions and give my view.

On one hand, there are good reasons for children to follow their parents. Parents have much more experience of life, so they usually know what is good and what is dangerous. When a child listens to this advice, he can avoid many mistakes, for example about health, study or friends. Parents also love their children and want the best for them, so their advice is honest and useful.

On the other hand, some people think that children should make their own decisions. When children always follow their parents, they do not learn how to think for themselves, and they can become too dependent. If a child makes his own choices, even small mistakes can teach him important lessons and help him to become more confident and independent. Every child is also different from the parents, and maybe they have different dreams and talents.

In my opinion, the best answer is a balance between the two. Young children should follow the advice of their parents because they do not have enough experience, but as they grow up, parents should give them more freedom to make their own decisions. In conclusion, children need both the guidance of their parents and the chance to choose for themselves.
