Children need to learn how to become good members of the society. Some people think that this is the job of the parents, while others believe that the school is the best place to learn it. In this essay I will discuss both opinions and give my view.
On one hand, many people think parents have the main responsibility. The family is the first place where a child learn about right and wrong. Parents can teach values like honesty, respect and kindness every day at home, and children usually copy the behaviour of their mother and father. Because parents love their children, they also have more patience to explain these things slowly. So the home is a very important place for this kind of learning.
On the other hand, some people believe the school is better. At school, children meet many other students from different families, so they learn how to share, follow rules and work in a team. Teachers can also show good examples and organise activities that teach cooperation. In addition, some parents are very busy with their work, so they do not have enough time to teach these lessons well.
In my opinion, both the family and the school are important, and they should work together. Parents should give the basic values at home, and the school should help children to practise these values with other people. In conclusion, becoming a good member of society is not the job of only one side, and children learn best when parents and teachers support each other.
