Band 6 model answer

Nowadays, technology is a big part of our life, and some people believe that it has made people more socially isolated. I partly agree with this opinion, because technology has both good and bad effects on our social life.

On one side, it is true that technology can make people more isolated. Many people spend a lot of hours looking at their phone, playing games or watching videos alone. Sometimes, when a family is together in the same room, everybody is looking at their own screen and nobody is talking. Also, some young people prefer to chat online instead of meeting their friends in real life, so they lose the practice of face to face communication. In this way, technology can reduce real human contact.

On the other side, technology also help people to stay connected. With social media and video calls, we can talk to our family and friends who live far away, even in another country. During difficult times, like a pandemic, technology allowed people to keep in touch when they could not meet. It also helps shy people to make new friends and join communities with the same interests.

In my opinion, technology itself is not the real problem; the problem is how we use it. If people use it too much, they become isolated, but if they use it in a balanced way, it can improve their social life. In conclusion, I agree that technology can cause isolation, but only when people do not control their own habits.
